Officials warn against feeding or shooting resident gobblers

Published in The Sheridan Press November 23, 2016

This is a story that was made out of nothing. At the Sheridan Press, the Thanksgiving edition is the widest distributed edition of the year - it goes to the whole county, regardless of whether they have a subscription or not.
So I was assigned the story that covered the local wild turkeys that walked the streets of Sheridan. I had two interviews that totaled about 90 seconds, so I didn’t have much to work with. While everything I wrote comes from credible online sources, I had to get creative when it came to telling the story of the turkeys and resourceful when it came to researching wild turkeys.
It was a different kind of challenge, which was paired up with the perfect photo by our press photographer (not pictured). This story has been the choice of dramatic readings around the Thanksgiving table in the years that followed.
